They Mystics lost to the Seattle Storm in 3 games in the WNBA Finals but this season was nothing short of amazing. Elena Della Donne emerged as a MVP candidate, Ariel Atkins made the All Rookie Team, Kristi Tolliver and Natasha Cloud have been incredible and the Mystics breathed some life into their local community.
They announced the opening of a brand new sports facility that will serve as the home arena for the Mystics as well as newly formed Wizards G League affiliate, Capital City GoGo. The arena will be in the Ward 8 section of the District which is one of it’s. most impoverished areas. The continued revitalization efforts in that area of the city has enabled the Mystics, Wizards and GoGo to do some outstanding community outreach events. Wizards PG John Wall hosted a back to school giveaway in SE, the Capital City GoGo had their introductory press conference and hosted a basketball clinic at Charles Hart Middle School in Ward 8 in August and the Mystics held a clinic at the school on Tuesday and gifted the kids with two tickets each to last night’s game. This type of presence in this particular community is so vital to those residents.
While the Mystics fell short in their ultimate goal of winning a championship, they along with the Wizards and the G League club, are doing an amazing job in touching the people who support them. Keep it up and congratulations ladies on an awesome season!!!! Flip the pages to see them in action giving back and supporting their biggest fans, the residents of DC.
